Rocking Chair
This rocking chair is based off plans for a Stickley Style Rocking Chair, with modifications to the height to make it 2” taller, and general design details. The chair pieces, made from poplar, with pieces cut with either a table saw or bandsaw. The back slats are attached using mortise and tenon joints, each mortise was created by using a forstner bit to create a series of holes then chiseling out the edges to make a clean rectangle. All other connections are doweled together using ½” dowels. The carving is an original design done with a wood carving Dremel bit. The rockers were created by making a plywood jig then laminating strips of oak and then shaping with a ¼” grinder. The legs were cut to angles with a Japanese saw to rest on the rockers and then screwed and plugged from the underside. The finished chair was primed, painted and sealed. The seat is ½” plywood, 3” of upholstery foam and upholstered.
Eastlake Table
I began by selecting an image of the table I wanted to build and created a full scale drawing. I used poplar and cut the majority of the pieces on the bandsaw and did engravings using a Dremel. The legs connect to the lathed center column with dowel joints. The tabletop is connected using biscuit joints and screwed to a plate mounted on the top of the center column. The table was then stained and given a contact paper inlay.
